Every year, around 48,000 students enroll in academic and non-credit programs offered by the college.
Admission Criteria for Us Students (Who Can Apply)
The following applicants qualify for admission to Joliet Junior College under its open-door admissions policy:
- Graduates of high school or holders of a GED.
- Applicants who are through with a program of study at home. (These students must provide the supporting paperwork below to get admission.)
- A transcript that details the classes you took while doing the home study.
- The grades for the courses attempted and passed.
- Attendance data for the time frame covered by the home study program.
- A description of the grading system used for the home study course.
- The person who delivered the principal instruction or the administrator in charge of the home school program should have produced and certified this material. According to transcripts created by private schools in Illinois, the information above is accurate. According to Illinois law, homeschooling is equivalent to attending a private school.
- Any person who is at least 18 years old.
- Students who transfer from other colleges or universities and meet one of the requirements above.
Additionally, the following student groups may get admission with the admissions director’s consent:
- 16-year-old high school students that have received advance permission from the high school they are now attending.
- 16-year-olds who have broken all ties to the high school district where they are legally residing.
- Students under 16 who have received prior approval from Illinois Community College District 525 and their high school district to participate in a gifted or accelerated program.
Each student must apply. A certain course or program of study is not guaranteed to students who get admission to the college. The college maintains the authority to implement a selective admissions process and to give Illinois Community College District 525 residents priority.
To get admission, applicants pursuing a B.A. or B.S. degree at an Illinois state university must fulfill the minimum criteria outlined in Illinois Public Act 86-0954. Students will get admission as baccalaureate candidates if they meet these requirements based on their high school transcripts and the results of the placement examinations for English and mathematics.
According to their high school records, students must meet the following precise requirements:
- At least 15 units of study from one of the following five high school subject areas: Four years of English (with a focus on written and oral communications and literature); three years of social studies (with a focus on history and government); three years of mathematics (with a focus on fundamentals of computer programming or introductory through advanced algebra); three years of science (lab sciences); and two years of electives in a foreign language, music, vocational education, or the arts.
- Deducting no more than one unit each from the categories of social studies, mathematics, sciences, and electives and then completing those three units in any of the five categories allows for the distribution of up to three of the compulsory 15 units of coursework.

Veterinary Technology Agricultural Sciences and Vet Tech: Choose your concentration.
Participate in training to earn your Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Veterinary Technician Assistant (VTA) designation (VTA).
Certified Veterinary Technician
Developed specifically for students who have an interest in pursuing careers as CVTs. It is a comprehensive educational program that combines traditional classroom instruction with practical laboratory and clinical training.
Provides daytime and evening classes in addition to full-time and part-time schedules to choose from. For all veterinary technology classes, you must finish within four years of the initial date of enrollment in the program.
Students who want to earn a degree (to become a CVT) should apply to JJC and then apply to the Vet Tech program. Students who want to obtain a VTA certificate should only apply to JJC; no additional admissions paperwork is necessary.
Veterinary Technician Assistant
VTAs assist the veterinarian and the veterinary technician when it comes to the care of animals in various settings, such as clinics and animal shelters. Open enrollment, with the course being available each semester beginning in the fall of 2022.
Although it is possible to do it in one semester, you can spread it over more than one. The program requires participants to complete their practicum hours (VTA 103) at the end of each VTA class.
Obtaining a VTA credential will improve your standing in the highly competitive entry-level Veterinary Technician program.
What Do I Need to Know to Make an Informed Decision Concerning the VTA Certificate Program?
Students must have completed at least eight grade levels of schooling, be at least 16 years old, speak and understand the English language, and be in reasonable physical, mental, and emotional health to be eligible for this course. Other requirements include being able to speak and understand the English language.
The Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) of the American Veterinary Medical Association has granted Joliet Junior College’s Veterinary Medical Technology Program full accreditation (AVMA).
After graduating from the VMTP, candidates can sit for the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE), which is mandatory for licensing in Illinois. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) handles the examination, which is the state’s regulatory agency.
The requirements for certification can differ from one state to the next. The Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology program does not intend to fulfill the prerequisites for admission to veterinary school to become a licensed veterinarian (DVM).
Vaccine Requirements/Recommendations
As a student in the Veterinary Technology program, you must provide proof that you have a complete rabies vaccination series. Joliet Junior College strongly suggests that new veterinary technology students get their COVID-19 immunization before beginning the program.
This is because most clinical locations for veterinary technology require students to have this vaccination.

Learning through hands-on experience is possible at JJC because of the presence of kennels and a large animal facility on campus. Textbook Rentals
The return date for textbook rentals for the fall of 2022 is December 16, 2022. On December 21, 2022, any overdue and damaged rentals will appear as lost, regardless of their condition.
The late fee, the difference between the rental fee and the retail price of the book, and the sales tax on the full value of the book are all included in the costs associated with the book’s loss.
All rentals are eligible for a full refund 14 days before the first day of class. If you would want a refund, please come in during our regular business hours and do so within 14 days after the first day of the program. If you return a rental more than 14 days after the beginning of the class, the customer will not receive a refund.
Please bring any items you rent to the Main Campus Bookstore at 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet, Illinois 60431.
You can mail the rental back to the Main Campus Bookstore at your own expense if you cannot return it to the Main Campus Bookstore physically. You must address or dispatch the rental agreement before the due date.

Every student at Joliet Junior College (JJC) must exhibit values such as honesty, fair-mindedness, respect, decency, tolerance, and respect for others.
In and out of the classroom, members of the entire college community need to behave in a way that exemplifies these values because of their significance to the learning environment and because doing so is what is important to them.
These rights include a student’s rights within the institution to freedom of speech, inquiry, assembly, the peaceful pursuit of an education, and reasonable use of the services and facilities of the College. These rights are in addition to the rights guaranteed by the Constitutions of the United States and the State of Illinois.
Students must comply with the College’s Student Code of Conduct, which reasonably restricts some activities and reasonably prohibits certain behavior that could disrupt the classroom setting, the orderly operation of the College, and the pursuit of the College’s goals and core values of respect, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation, and quality.
