Accredited Veterinary Universities in the USA

The American Veterinary Medical Association, or AVMA, is an accrediting body for veterinary medical education programs. If a university is accredited, it means that its programs have been voluntarily submitted for evaluation against a set of educational standards. The standards are defined by the AVMA and the evaluation process includes a self-evaluation by college officials, site visits by trained site visitors, a review of the site visit report, and a written report of the site findings.

As soon as the college becomes accredited, its work continues to be monitored at a minimum on an annual basis. This process is extremely beneficial both for the university and veterinarians as it means that the university provides contemporary high-quality education. Moreover, attending an accredited college means that veterinary students will meet a competency threshold for entry into veterinary practice and eligibility for professional credentialing and licensing.

According to the official web list, there are thirty accredited universities in the United States. This list is updated biannually and universities can get accreditation through a review process. The review process is conducted by an external review panel of practitioners and academics, who assess whether the university meets the Requirements of an Accredited College of Veterinary Medicine.
